Video Summary
PCI hosted a webinar titled “Construction Forecast and PCI Market Survey Update,” presented by Brian Miller. He explained how PCI combines Dodge construction-start forecasts with PCI’s producer sales survey to evaluate market trends, precast “relative market” potential (the share of a project typically achievable with precast), and producer market share by segment, state, and region. Miller emphasized focusing on four-year compound annual growth rates, magnitude of opportunity, and how strategy changes depending on whether a company is a small, mid-level, or leading market-share player—especially in contracting markets where competition and pricing pressure increase.

Nationally, total construction starts are still projected to grow through 2029, but growth has slowed significantly versus the prior forecast, reflecting weaker economic indicators (GDP, residential/nonresidential investment, mortgage rates, unemployment). Segment outlooks show notable strength in data centers, which have rapidly expanded and now represent a major share of precast sales. Parking remains the largest precast segment but has been flat/declining in sales and share. Bridges are steady to modestly positive in some forecasts, while multifamily is projected to contract in many regions. K–12 remains the largest untapped precast opportunity. Regional summaries highlighted varying sales mixes, market shares, and growth/decline flags (often manufacturing or multifamily contractions). PCI data and the recording will be available via member resources and the PCI eLearning Center.
