Pdf Summary
This document presents the results of an experimental study on the behavior and strength of full-depth precast concrete panels used as bridge decks. The study focused on the use of threaded steel bolts as shear connectors between the precast concrete panels and precast girders. Thirteen push-out tests were conducted to determine the ultimate horizontal shear strength of the connection system. The results showed that threaded steel bolts are capable of allowing the precast concrete panels and girders to achieve full composite action. It was also found that the application of standard design guidelines for determining horizontal shear strength conservatively estimated the design strength of the shear connection. The study also compared the test results with the design specifications provided by ACI 318-02, AASHTO, and AASHTO LRFD. The results showed good agreement with the design codes, indicating that the shear connection system can be designed conservatively according to these codes. Overall, the study concluded that threaded steel bolts can be used successfully as shear connectors between precast concrete panels and girders, providing full composite action and efficient load transfer.
