Advanced Prestressed Session 2 Exam
Description

This is the exam for session 2 of PCI's Online Academy: Advanced Prestressed Design - Ledge Design

You must pass this exam with a 70% or higher to receive credit for this session.  The recording of this session will be added shortly, should you need to review it.

Throughout this course, design of different components of a typical precast/prestressed building will be presented. The building selected was a parking garage located in a low seismic region. Background to the design provisions will be first presented followed by use of design equations. The material presented assumes a basic knowledge of design provisions for precast/prestressed concrete elements such as that provided in the PCI Academy Basic Prestressed Concrete Class. Design procedures are based on the ACI 318-14 Code and the PCI Handbook, 8th Edition (Chapter 5).

After completing this session, participants should:
  • Understand the failure mechanisms that ledges can experience
  • Understand the basis for the design method used in the PCI Design Handbook
  • Be able to apply design procedures specific to ledges to avoid failure
  • Understand the importance of appropriate reinforcing details for adequate ledge performance
