PCI Online Academy: Basic Prestressed Design Session 6 Exam
Description

PCI Online Academy:  Basic Prestressed Design - Session 6 Exam

This is the post-exam for Session 6: Design Example - Quantities and Allowable Values. This course explains the basic concepts and methods of prestressed concrete design. Attendees will work through the design of a simple prestressed concrete rectangular beam of a building. Both straight strand and harped-strand design will be covered in the example, exposing participants to realistic design conditions. The course is based on AC 318-14, ASCE-7 (2010), and IBC (2015).

After completing this session, participants should be able to:

  • Compute the contribution of concrete to shear strength of prestressed concrete beams.
  • Design stirrups for shear in prestressed concrete beams.
  • Determine quantity of steel required to resist bursting stresses at beam ends.
  • Compute camber and deflections and compare with allowable values.
