Advanced Prestressed Session 3 Exam
Description

This is the exam for Session 3 of PCI's Advanced Prestressed Design Academy: Bearing on Concrete and Dapped End Design

You must pass this exam with a 70% or higher to receive credit for this session.  The recording of this session is available, should you need to review it.

Throughout this course, design of different components of a typical precast/prestressed building will be presented. The building selected was a parking garage located in a low seismic region. Background to the design provisions will be first presented followed by use of design equations. The material presented assumes a basic knowledge of design provisions for precast/prestressed concrete elements such as that provided in the PCI Academy Basic Prestressed Concrete Class. Design procedures are based on the ACI 318-14 Code and the PCI Handbook, 8th Edition (Chapter 5).

After completing this session, participants should:

  • Be able to check bearing strength of concrete for unreinforced and reinforced cases.
  • Understand the failure mechanisms involved in dapped ends by focusing on recent research results.
  • Understand the load transfer characteristics of dapped ends.
Be able to apply design procedures specific to dapped ends with an emphasis on proper detailing for adequate performance.
