PCI Online Academy: Basic Prestressed Design Session 5 Exam
Description

PCI Online Academy:  Basic Prestressed Design - Session 5 Exam

This is the post-exam for Session 5: Design Example - Calculating Strength. This course explains the basic concepts and methods of prestressed concrete design. Attendees will work through the design of a simple prestressed concrete rectangular beam of a building. Both straight strand and harped-strand design will be covered in the example, exposing participants to realistic design conditions. The course is based on AC 318-14, ASCE-7 (2010), and IBC (2015).

As a result of completing this course, attendees should:

  • Be able to compute nominal and design moment strength of prestressed concrete beams.
  • Calculate stresses in strands at ultimate moment.
  • Understand the concept of tension-controlled, compression-controlled and transition sections
  • Understand the effect of harping strands on moment strength.
