PCI Online Academy: Basic Prestressed Design Session 4 Exam
Description

PCI Online Academy:  Basic Prestressed Design - Session 4 Exam

This is the post-exam for Session 4: Design Example - Prestressing Force. This course explains the basic concepts and methods of prestressed concrete design. Attendees will work through the design of a simple prestressed concrete rectangular beam of a building. Both straight strand and harped-strand design will be covered in the example, exposing participants to realistic design conditions. The course is based on AC 318-14, ASCE-7 (2010), and IBC (2015).

After completing this session, participants should:

  • Be able to compute stresses in a pretensioned concrete beam after release of prestressing force.
  • Understand the possible ways to control top fiber tension stresses at ends of pretensioned concrete beams.
  • Understand the different types of losses of prestressing force.
  • Be able to compute losses of prestressing force.
  • Have a basic understanding of the effects of harping strands on service-level stresses.
