Advanced Prestressed Session 4 Exam
Description

This is the exam for Session 4 of PCI's Advanced Prestressed Design Academy: Design of Axially Loaded Members (Compression + Bending)

You must pass this exam with a 70% or higher to receive credit for this session.  The recording of this session is available, should you need to review it.

Throughout this course, design of different components of a typical precast/prestressed building will be presented. The building selected was a parking garage located in a low seismic region. Background to the design provisions will be first presented followed by use of design equations. The material presented assumes a basic knowledge of design provisions for precast/prestressed concrete elements such as that provided in the PCI Academy Basic Prestressed Concrete Class. Design procedures are based on the ACI 318-14 Code and the PCI Handbook, 8th Edition (Chapter 5).

After completing this session, participants should:

  • Understand what P-M Interaction diagrams represent.
  • Be able to calculate the strength of compression members under pure axial load.
  • Understand the influence of different factors of compression members that affect P-M interaction diagrams.
  • Gain knowledge on ACI 318-14 Code design procedures that apply to slender compression members.
