PCI eLearning Course T626: Application of PCI's Recommended Practice to Building Piles
T626 Course Description
PCI eLearning Course T626: Application of PCI’s Recommended Practice for Design, Manufacture, and Installation of Prestressed Concrete Piling to Building Piles

This course is the second in a four-part series on prestressed concrete piles. It specifically addresses building piles that are not considered part of the lateral-force-resisting system. The presentation covers recommendations of PCI’s Recommended Practice for Design, Manufacture, and Installation of Prestressed Concrete Piling to Building Piles regarding prescriptive and performance-based methods for designing prestressed concrete building piles in different areas of seismicity.

After completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the design of augercast piles for moderate to high seismicity
  • Understand the philosophies of the following:
    • Prestressed concrete pile design for low seismicity
    • Prestressed concrete pile design for moderate seismicity
    • Prestressed concrete pile design for high seismicity
  • Compare performance-based pile design and the prescriptive design method of the International Building Code
